Course Description

The Myalgia Patient is a course that attempts to address the special approach required for treatment of myalgic patients. Myalgia in its various forms are specificities is a chronic or episodic inflammatory condition wherein the patient experiences pain in places and amounts that seem far in excess of the causative factors.

These patients are often minimalized and discounted by allopathic medicine. The crux of the matter is that these patients experience constant low grade inflammatory conditions that are easily flared up by seemingly mild physical and mental stress or a combination of both.

The advanced clinician will recognize these underlying conditions and appropriately alter the normal treatment regime to gently enhance on systemic and local tissue drainage, improve systemic and local arterial feedback for oxygen and nutrient delivery to capillary beds, and appropriately return the patient to biomechanical function through normal manual techniques fine tuned by "listening" to the level of challenge that the structure and tissue can accept.

Treatment will focus on Chapmans Neurolymphatic Techniques, Bennett's Neurovascular Reflexes, Neural Dynamic Re-Integration and layer and regional palpation skills.

Learning Objectives: Upon course completion, the participant will be able to-

1) Identify the patterns of deep muscle pain in local area or global areas indicative of myalgia;

2) Describe the pain pattern of various somatic and visceral structures;

3) Identify the role of inflammation in the somatic and visceral structures that lead to myalgia;

4) Differentiate between the role of arteries and veins vs. arterioles and venules and capillary beds in myalgia;

5) Demonstrate Bennett's Neurovascular, Chapmans' Neurolymphatic, and Neuro-Dynamic Reintegration (all two-hand techniques) in somatic and visceral structures involved in myalgia.

Materials Provided: A binder of the course materials will be provided to each student to follow along and take notes during the lecture and lab portions of the class.

Purpose: The purpose of this class is to provide the clinical practitioner with a strong working knowledge of the the underlying anatomy, physiology, embryology, and pathology of the upper extremity and how that impacts dysfunction, how to approach treatment osteopathically, and how to manually treat the dysfunction.

Expected outcomes are to develop effective delineation and treatment strategies based upon an integration of new information and the extensive body of knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, and embryology of the pelvic viscera. This class will enhance participant learning through the use of discussion, audio-visual materials, recent research evidence, and extensive lab-based learning..
